ELF (External Learning Facility)

Sandy’s Blog

I’m a rabbit. Not a cat. Though I think I must have nine lives. I definitely lost one after my encounter with a mean-looking cat. After my scare, I was found and nursed back to health by a kind lady and her daughter. They looked after me until I was ready for the big, wide world again. Whilst I was recovering, the little girl named me Sandy; my fur reminded her of the beach.

Thankfully for me, the Extended Learning Facility (ELF) at Dereham Church of England Junior Academy had just been built and they were looking to give homes to a few lucky animals. Although I was sad to leave the little family I was with, I felt positive about joining an even bigger one – 450 to be precise and that’s just the humans!

Since arriving in my new enclosure at the ELF, I have made friends with other animals; two rabbits, who are almost as good looking as me! The humans call them, Malteser and Galaxy. Whenever I hear their names being called – I start to feel hungry. I don’t know why that is…… We love to spend our days eating as much grass as we can; at nap times, we like to snuggle up together.

The ELF is also home to four other animals – these bunnies are funny looking and often make squeaking noises. I’m starting to wonder if they are bunnies at all. In fact, the other day, I heard the humans call them guinea pigs! Pigs? They don’t look like pigs though they do make good neighbours.

Now that we have all settled in, our humans have to think of ways to raise money. I heard them talking about injections for us all the other day. I don’t like the sound of that at all but they told me, they are needed so we don’t get ill. So, they have organised an Open Elf afternoon on Friday 30th July; at 3.15pm. There will be lots of things to do and I am looking forward to meeting lots of new people and having my picture taken with them – I will remember to smile sweetly! 🙂 Please come along and meet us all and help raise money for our injections. There will also be a non-uniform day on that day – feel free to dress as an animal and show us bunnies how to really hop!

We all love it in the ELF – we couldn’t think of any place we’d rather be!
