The Diocese of Norwich Education and Academy Trust has appointed a Transition Board to undertake the work of the governing body and support the school moving forward. The Board is made up of three people who are all very experienced in supporting schools to improve outcomes for children.
David Lennard Jones | Transition board Chair
Jan Pierson | Transition board member
Simon Morley | Transition board member | Academy Group Executive Principal (AGEP) |
The board will be working with a group of other governors who it is hoped will be willing to be appointed by the trust as a local governing body for the school. The plan is that the transition board will work with this group and when the time is right will hand over to them and the transition board will be dissolved.
In the meantime, the transition board will be working with staff to support and challenge. The shared aim is to make Dereham Junior Academy the best school that it can be.

Governance Statement January 2016
In accordance with the Governments’ requirements for all governing bodies, the 3 core strategic functions of Dereham Church of England Junior Academy School Governing Body are:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and it’s pupils
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure the budget is well spent.
Governance arrangements
The Governing Body of Dereham Church of England Junior Academy was re- constituted following the Academies conversion under the Sponsorship of the Norwich Diocesan Board (DNEAT). The membership of the governing body is made up 2 staff governors, including the Headteacher, 2 Parent Governors and 6 Trust Governors. The Trust Governors are appointed by DNEAT and are people, who in the opinion of DNEAT, have the skills and commitment to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school: on the governing body there are representatives from the local community, including the Rector from St Nicholas Church and a number of people with a range of experience in business. The full Governing Body meets regularly each term and others, such as pupil discipline and staffing matters, meet as required.
Attendance record of governors
Governors regularly attend the meetings and throughout the year all meetings have been quorate- thus allowing legal decisions to be made.
Review of impact of the Governing Body
The work of the previous governing body had been focused around the school’s decision to join DNEAT and the work that involved. This now is a reality and the current governing body will review the impact of its current work at the end of this school year.
