At Dereham Junior Academy, we want our pupils to learn another language in order to open up more of the world to them.
We believe that developing a love of languages encourages people to broaden their horizons and aspire to understand more of the world. We feel it fosters respect for other cultures and helps our pupils to trust in themselves when communicating with others with kindness.
At Dereham Junior Academy, we learn French. We believe that French is an ideal ‘starter’ language and is, consequently, great for developing courage and confidence. We hope that in starting with French, we will nurture the awe and wonder that learning another language can bring and ignite our pupils’ creativity.
We teach French discretely using a scheme called, ‘Language Angels’. These sessions are taught on a weekly basis.

Taught as discrete lessons throughout every half term under the broad headings above. The scheme ‘Language Angels’ provides the content of our French curriculum. In year 5, our pupils get to ‘explore’ France in even more detail through their topic, ‘A Journey Through France’. |
