Year 6 launched their topic for this term learning facts about Brasil, its history, geography and culture. They engaged in: recycled instrument making; learning samba rhythms; capoeira and about the origins of carnival and how the costumes are designed and made. The children enjoyed working with our guest musician José Carlos Gomes Ferreira known as Duda. They enjoyed hearing his story about living in Brasil and giving children from the street music as a way to have fun and for some to travel to Europe to perform. Who would have thought you can do so much using cast off materials to make instruments and music.
